cyanotype samples

It’s been a while since I’ve experimented with textiles purely for the joy of finding out something new. I’ve been so inspired by my workshop attendees that I thought I’d get printing for myself more and that I’d try to post more regular snippets of what I get up to here in the studio.

cyanotype samples on silk, linen and cotton

These are small samples made on silk, cotton and linen using gingko and bamboo leaves and some unidentified beauties.

The next image is the pre-rinse and post-rinse of the bamboo and mystery leaves. I love the quirky design of this and it’s one of those prints that I could never recreate exactly

Making these small fabric samples this weekend has kickstarted my creativity again and I’m itching to get making more. Hopefully these will eventually translate into textile designs for my products here at the Cyan Studio.

Cyanotype workshops at Manchester Craft & Design Centre

Cyanotype workshops have been up and running for over a month now and I’m loving teaching them! It’s fabulous to be able to welcome people to the studio and to watch everyone lose themselves in such a wonderful technique.

Please get in touch if you would like to attend a workshop yourself and you’d like to know more and if you’d like to book, please click on the button below which will take you to my booking page.

Studio 26 Progress

When I got the keys to Studio 26 at the gorgeous Manchester Craft & Design Centre back on Nov 1st last year, I didn’t have a clue how much work was ahead. I naively thought that we’d be finished within a couple of weeks! 2.5 months later and I love how it’s come together. It’s not quite finished yet but I’ll post some photos and videos of how it all looks now in my next post. In the meantime, here are some progress photos.

Katazome experimentations

These are the results of my first experiments with Katazome and I might just be a tad smitten with the technique. This is a resist process which originated in Japan and uses a rice paste to create the resist. I will go into more detail about Katazome in a later post.
